Welcome to our flower farm and enjoy a step back in time with a visit to this circa 1740 farm with its daylily, hosta and perennial gardens located in the central Massachusetts town of Berlin. This peaceful oasis is just an hour west of Boston or a brief twenty minutes northeast of Worcester. If you want to make a day of it, the Summer Star Wildlife Sanctuary is just down the street and the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill is merely four miles away. If you need to do some shopping, both the Highland Commons and Solomon Pond malls are also within four miles of the farm.
The farm opens each season on May 1st. We specialize in a diverse selection of sun, shade, native and woodland perennials - many of which are unique and hard-to-find. We offer thousands of beautiful plants in a tranquil setting - perfect for garden enthusiasts and nature lovers.
Our goal has always been to provide gardeners with quality plants to help them succeed while providing a unique shopping experience in a serene environment.
The Farm also has a garden shed gift shop, garden statuary by Campania International, Spear Head Spades as well as the new Spear Head Hoe, Coast of Maine organic fertilizers and other natural products to help you garden thrive. Daylillies
Daylilies (hemerocallis) are easy to grow and are drought tolerant once established in your garden. Our cultivars are available in heights from 10" to 72" and bloom sizes from 2" to 9-10", single and double blooms are also available in a rainbow of colors
Hosta
Hosta (plantain lily) are easy to grow, low maintenance plants that thrive in shade/partial shade conditions. Hybridizing has resulted in a diversity of leaf color and plant habit. Hummingbirds and butterflies LOVE hosta flowers.
Sun & Shade Perennials
We have hundreds of beautiful varieties of hardy New England perennials - many of which are unique and unusual.
Peonies
Peony (Paeonia) This beautiful showy garden plant has it's origins in southern Europe and they thrive here in New England. A large selection of Bomb, Double, Japanese, Semi-double and Itoh peonies are available at the Farm
Asiatic & Oriental Lilies
Impressive and showy, add a few for summer beauty in the garden; they are very long-lived and have a long bloom time in the summer garden. Great as a cut flower!
Alliums
These flowering onions are adored by bees, butterflies and other pollinators. They give bold dramatic stature, color and form to the garden. Require full son and are rabbit, rodent and deer resistant.
Grasses
Prized for providing year-round interest, grasses are full and lush during the warm months, put on great displays of fall color and are unmatched for winter texture and interest in the landscape. Once established, most are low-maintenance, drought tolerant and resistant to disease. They are also aesthetically versatile and can be used in gardening styles ranging from cottage to contemporary.
Vining Plants
Vines are the best friends of a passionate gardener as there is no better way to splash color and texture around a property than with plants that grow skyward. Here at the farm, we have many vine varieties such as Honeysuckle, Wisteria and Climbing Hydrangeas.
Flowering Shrubs & Ornamental Trees
This year, we have again expanded the selection of flowering shrubs and ornamental trees for your garden or landscape.
Woodland Plants
This year we have again expanded on our woodland plant offerings. Woodland plants make for a beautiful addition to shade or hosta gardens, woodland gardens and at a woodland edge.
The entire selection of plants are NURSERY PROPOGATED. We do not sell any wild-collected or so-called "rescued" plants. In addition, we also have a larger selection of other perennials that thrive in shade or woodland gardens.
Annuals
We will have an abundance of beautiful annuals available including many Proven Winner varieties.

Hydrangeas
Hydrangeas come in many styles and forms from climbing to mophead varieties and are great for adding structure to your garden.
Hydrangea flowers' color changes based upon the soil's PH. Soil with a PH of 5.5 or lower will have blue flowers; soil with a PH of 6.5 or higher will produce pink blossoms and soil between 5.5 and 6.5 will produce purple blooms. Espoma Oranic Soil Acidifier for Hydrangeas and blueberries is available at the Farm.
White Hydrangeas will always be white because they do not contain pigment for color.
Iris
Iris takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow - how fitting for this beautiful plant. A large selection of Iris, germanica as well as siberian and Japanese are available at the Farm
Dwarf & Miniature Conifers
These slow-growing and hardy conifers are adaptable to themed gardens such as Zen, Fairy and Railroad Scapes and are ideal for planting in Rock Gardens and containers. We have many varieties of these compact conifers and evergreens that are great anchor plants in any garden.

Native American Plants
Great source of pollen and nectar for butterflies, bees and other pollinating insects that rely on such plants. There are about 120 species of butterflies that can be found in Massachusetts each year and about 350 varieties of bees as well.
Water Garden Plants
Having a water garden is a wonderful and fun garden feature in any setting. Not only can you enjoy beeautiful water plants like water lilies - for example, your pond will also attract some of nature's wonderful creatures such as frogs, dragonflies and butterflies. You can also include goldfish.
Herbs
Most herbs are so beautiful, they can be worked into your existing annual or perennial gardens. Also, many herbs can be grown successfully in containers set out in your garden or in a sunny area on a porch or patio.
Garden Shed & Beyond
You just never know what garden decor or gift item you may find in our garden shed. Each year we strive to offer a few unique items - most of which are in limited quantity.
Have you purchased your Spear Head Spade yet? This is a great spade available in long handle and the shorter D handle. This tool will make your gardening chores so much easier.
Fall Offernings
Fall is a great time of year to either install a new garden bed or enhance an existing bed. Most years, Fall brings on cooler temperatures and adequate rains so perennials planted in early Fall will thrive and beautify your garden during the spring and summer months to follow.

The roses being offered are hardy varieties all grown here in Massachusetts. A beautiful selection of tea, floribunda, grandiflora and climbing roses will be available at the Farm.

Bear in the Beeyard
We are beekeepers here at Golden Skep and we have a visitor to the beeyard from time to time who eats one entire hive on each visit!
